Winter 2021-2022 – Alumnus John “Red” Cummings donated books

Over a number of years, the school and monastery libraries have received a copy of the works of local Fall River Massachusetts author, John B. “Red” Cumming, Jr. Portsmouth Abbey class of 1963. The most recent, Just Angy: A Memoir (2020) is a biography of his mother, Angela (Angy) Patricia King Cummings in which he describes her decision to agree to send John, “Red” as a boarding student to Portsmouth Priory. Other titles in Red’s list include: The Acoaxet Club at 100 ; a Historical Visit (2019), located Westport, Massachusetts ; Cream of the Crop: Fall River’s Best and Brightest (2014) about the city’s memorable residents; Lobstah (sic) Tales, a History of the Moby Dick/ Black Eddy Restaurant (2016) another landmark, also located in the Westport area (2007); The Last Fling : Hurricane Carol 1954 , Stories from Westport, Massachusetts (2011); From Little Acorns to Giant Oaks: The Greater Fall River Development Corporation (2007) and Murder, Manslaughter and Mayhem on the Southcoast (3 volumes, 2017- to 2018). These cover local crimes from the years 1800 to 1916.
