From late March through April, the library celebrated the lovely cherry blossom. According to the National Park Service, plantings of cherry trees originated in 1912 as a gift of "friendship from the People of Japan to the People of the United States." Each year, visitors flock to Washington D.C. to see the beautiful flowers, known as sakura in Japan. Members of the Abbey community visited the library to enjoy a display of art, haiku, and origami.
