Fall 2018 – Great American Read Winners

GAR Winners

Throughout the month of October and in early November, the library staff invited students, faculty, and staff to vote for their favorite books in "The Great American Read" Competition. The competition was based on an eight-part television series of the same name, which was shown on PBS and hosted by Meredith Vieira. The national televised competition ended with Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird earning the top spot. At Portsmouth Abbey, nearly 150 votes were cast for 53 different books. Among students, the favorite book was Moby Dick by Herman Melville. Faculty and Staff chose Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier as the top novel. The overall community selection, which included parents who voted during Parents Weekend, was a tie between To Kill a Mockingbird and Moby Dick. The top books in each category were as follows: GAR Winners Final
